Monsters Don’t Feel Shame!

They don’t, they just don’t. Other people who struggle to be good citizens wince at the thought of doing something slightly inappropriate. Not saying they are prudes. That they are just mature and informed. They know that being an asshole will only get you so far.

Make a mistake. Realize it and accept you are wrong and apologize. It is just that easy. Feel some shame and do better next time. 

Admitting we are wrong is hard. Facts are not hard; accepting them should not be hard. However, our ego does not want us to be wrong. So, we will justify, rationalize, and rely on our biases to hide from the truth. We fight our natural impulse to connect to others and their viewpoint – if anything, for our survival – yet we cling to what serves our self-interests as we sacrifice our morality.

We cannot evolve and mature into our potential if we do not own our shortcomings. 

Monsters are real. They thrive and survive when we do not do anything. When we allow them to be their worst, they take power, they take control, then they take everything. They will act on their worst instincts. They will intentionally hurt those who are just trying to be good citizens. They will do it because they can.  They will justify their evil deeds by citing the bible. They distort and contort their reasons by lying to obtain their goals without considering who they hurt.  

They will wish people well who have been convicted of sexual abuse and human trafficking. They believe they are above the law and have the means to hire lawyers to get them off. They have their own rules to follow. Monsters are violent with language, with actions, and with their thinking that they are somehow superior to the rest of us. They are not. 

They are bullies, they're cowards, they are damaged, and they are not interested in bettering themselves except to make a buck and take more resources. 

AND THEY HAVE NO SHAME!
