Idealism is Exhausting but Necessary.

Idealism:

I am an Idealist. I cannot help myself. I just am. Like being honest, it is hard. Hard to see the best in other’s and oneself, or a situation. But, I must caution, do not believe everything you think. Be mindful, pay attention and be motivated to see the Truth.
We tend to form an impression or opinion within the first few minutes. We can hope for the best, as long as we are not disappointed by the worst. To master our minds we must be vigilant, attentive, and engaged with the outside world as well as and especially with our interior landscape.
It is all about expectations. If we expect too much we will invariably be disappointed. Idealism is a state of mind and feeling. The majority of our self-talk is critical. Our default is to see things the way we wish them to be. The shadow side of Idealism is sloth. If we do not get our way we disengage and we become negative and complain. I know this all too well. If I am not present and aware of what is going on, I become disenchanted and I become critical.
To be grateful for small blessings and to maintain our positive outlook, we must imagine the worst. What? That’s right we must apply a Stoic exercise of negative visualization. If we can see the worst of a scenario and be able to handle it, we must first see or envision what it looks like. So, when it happens, we can say – “so this is what xyz looks, feels, like…”
The whole time we are going through the worst of times we can know that this impermanent and will not last forever. This situation, this struggle, this hurt or emotional upset is temporary. Nothing lasts forever. Especially an emotional tone or state. If we can see things as they are and not as we wish them to be, we can exercise our Idealism to get us through.
Idealism is a virtue and being a virtue we must strive earnestly to put this awareness into practice whenever we are charged with a difficult task, hardship, or worst case scenario to help us get through to the other side. We can pace back and forth on this shore as we watch the river flow by and complain and curse our circumstance or we can build that raft of self-empowerment and prepare to cross over to the other shore of self-liberation and freedom.
Life is not hard, it is only our thinking that makes it so. Keep the best top of mind and see the possibility that we can ideally do the best with the right thinking and the appropriate action to create a world beyond the mundane. If we always expect the best and prepare for the worst we can manage even the worst of times.
The real power is knowing that we are capable. The cousin of Idealism is a Realist. If we can be real, speak the truth with sincerity and imagine the best than we empower each other to climb the highest mountain and swim the widest sea as we reach for the stars and end up where we are—among the clouds of the possible as we grow and evolve into the beings we are meant to be.
