THE DISEASE


Micro regressions lead to macro deceptions
which wither the heart
weakens the mind and paralyzes the will
souls are complicit in the disease
the disease it feeds
with no release it lives
and thrives as the morally
challenged keep taking and don’t give
morality dies as self-interest
tries to comfort, cajole that this is right
before the frowny faces and deliberate snarls
the disease it seeps into our being to appease
to feed your hate, your victim-hood
it finds that weakness
in the corner of your shadows
in encourages, magnifies, and amplifies
that pain that lies within
not shine light on and into
but more darkness more bile
deflower, deny, and denigrate
and it does it with a smile.

That they are just mature and informed. They know that being an asshole will only get you so far. Make a mistake. Realize it and accept you are wrong and apologize. It is just that easy. Feel some shame and do better next time.  Admitting we are wrong is hard. Facts are not hard; accepting them should not be hard. However, our ego does not want us to be wrong.
